“AIGIS”: The country’s shield against the risks of the climate crisis
The “AIGIS” Programme is the largest national investment in Civil Protection, aiming to make Greece more prepared, safer and more resilient to the impacts of the climate crisis.
By leveraging European funds, the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is creating a modern Civil Protection Mechanism to address challenges and protect citizens, property and the environment.
The Programme’s shield of protection extends across the entire country with speed and transparency, building a resilient Civil Protection network for today’s and future generations.

Initiatives & Projects
The initiatives presented on this platform are part of the flagship “Aegis” program, the largest investment ever made in Greece in the field of Civil Protection.
With funding exceeding €2 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility and other sources, the program aims to establish a comprehensive mechanism for prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Aegis includes the modernization of infrastructure, the deployment of innovative technologies (sensors, drones, AI), the procurement of new aerial and ground assets, and the development of human capital through training and risk-management centers.
With this program, Civil Protection moves to a new operational and technological level, responding to the challenges of the climate crisis with planning, speed, and transparency.
Establishment of a National Disaster Risk Management Strategy
Greece is upgrading the national disaster risk management framework, with new infrastructure and modern tools for operational command and coordination.
Development of an Innovative Monitoring and Management System
Civil Protection is being equipped with state-of-the-art technology, acquiring intelligent monitoring systems for effective management and rapid intervention.
Aerial Assets for Crisis Management
The national aerial fleet for the prevention and response to natural disasters is being upgraded, with the acquisition of new assets and the modernisation of existing ones.
Firefighting & Wildfire Response Equipment
To strengthen the country’s fire and flood protection, Civil Protection is investing in upgrading the equipment of all its bodies.
