AIGIS Project
“AIGIS” Project: Facing the Climate Crisis… we raise a shield of protection
The climate crisis is an ongoing and complex challenge affecting safety, infrastructure, the natural environment, and citizens’ daily lives. Greece is responding with planning, coordination, and modern tools.
The AIGIS Project is the country’s major national initiative to strengthen resilience against natural and technological threats intensified by climate change. It constitutes a comprehensive framework of strategic interventions, technological infrastructure, operational equipment, and institutional tools that enhance:
- prevention and early warning,
- preparedness and operational coordination,
- effective response in crisis situations,
- the country’s overall resilience.
The AIGIS Project is not merely a collection of works. It is a comprehensive investment in safety, transparency, technological innovation, and institutional reliability.
Because in the face of the climate crisis, protection is everyone’s responsibility.
The AIGIS Project covers the entire disaster management cycle, strengthening prevention and preparedness, as well as operational response and recovery.

Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF)
The Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) is the European Union’s primary financial instrument for strengthening the resilience of Member States and accelerating the green and digital transition.
In Greece, the RRF is implemented through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, which places sustainable development, institutional modernization, and the strengthening of critical public infrastructure at its core.
Within this framework, Civil Protection is substantially reinforced through a coherent network of investments that form the backbone of the AIGIS Project. The actions financed by the RRF are not fragmented interventions, but structural reforms that comprehensively upgrade the way the country prevents, manages, and responds to crises.
With the central message “Facing the Climate Crisis… we raise a shield of protection,” the Project reflects the shared responsibility and coordinated action of the state, institutions, and citizens. The “shield” symbolizes the modern protection system being built today, with the vision of a safer and more resilient tomorrow.
Within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, critical investments are being implemented, including:
- the establishment of a National Disaster Risk Management Strategy,
- the development of innovative monitoring and management systems,
- the strengthening of aerial resources for crisis management,
- the modernization of equipment for the prevention and response to forest fires.
