Development of an Innovative Monitoring and Management System
Digital Reinforcement of Prevention and Early Response
Effective management of risks arising from the climate crisis requires reliable data, modern technological infrastructure, and real-time operational awareness.
Within this framework, a comprehensive investment is being implemented to upgrade the country’s monitoring, prevention, and operational coordination system by leveraging innovative digital and technological solutions.
This investment strengthens the capacity for:
- early risk detection,
- continuous monitoring of critical data,
- faster decision-making,
- more effective operational management.
Early Fire Detection System
As part of the investment, the following is being implemented:
- One integrated Early Fire Detection System, covering 21 locations.
This system:
- enables immediate detection of ignition points,
- significantly reduces response time for operational forces,
- strengthens prevention in high-risk areas,
- contributes to limiting the impact of forest fires.
Its installation and operation create a modern surveillance network capable of supporting more effective operational planning.
Broader Digital Modernization Axis
Within the broader digital modernization axis of Civil Protection, technological infrastructure is further strengthened to support the overall modernization of the mechanism, including:
- geolocation (GPS) systems for managing the vehicle fleet of the Fire Service and Civil Protection agencies,
- upgrades to operational information systems,
- meteorological stations for early warning,
- emergency communication stations and climatological data radar systems.
These interventions enhance interoperability, information flow, and operational readiness at the national level.
Budget and Funding
The AIGIS Project has a total budget of €2,077,494,365 dedicated to strengthening Civil Protection.
Funding is allocated across four main intervention pillars:
- 216.101.632€ – Infrastructure and facilities upgrades
- 346.264.004€ – Warning systems and prevention resources
- 193.091.652€ – Equipment and coordination support resources
- 1.322.037.079€ – Operational equipment and response assets
This investment is implemented within the above pillars and financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility through the National Plan “Greece 2.0,” with resources from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
