Climate Crisis
The natural environment is our “home” and is coming under increasing pressure.
The climate crisis is leading to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall.
As a result, the likelihood of climate-related hazards occurring — such as forest fires and floods — is increasing. If these hazards escalate, they may lead to disasters.
In view of these new circumstances, Civil Protection:
is called upon to address and mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis, namely the increasingly frequent and intense climate-related hazards, such as forest fires and floods
aiming to strengthen prevention and preparedness, contributes to the adoption of numerous measures for adaptation to modern climate conditions
strengthens society’s resilience, meaning its ability to recover, by reducing its vulnerability to extreme events.
The “AEGIS” Programme, with financial support from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, strengthens Civil Protection and aims to enhance Greece’s resilience against the adverse impacts of the climate crisis.
